Latest Developments 🌍
XAI’s Grok enters the LLM game
Introducing Grok by XAI - the new contender in the arena of language models, bringing a blend of humor, knowledge, and a rebellious streak. Developed in a record time of four months, Grok-1 is the AI that not only matches wits with established models like ChatGPT-3.5 but is also hot on the heels of GPT-4.
Key Highlights:
Against the Giants: Grok-1 not only competes with predecessors like ChatGPT-3.5 but also closely trails behind GPT-4, offering a commendable performance even with a smaller training dataset.
Real-life Application: Grok's capabilities have been practically proven, with a remarkable 59% score on the 2023 Hungarian National High School Math Exam, showcasing its real-world effectiveness.
Innovative Infrastructure: With a robust foundation built on Kubernetes, Rust, and JAX, Grok promises resilience, minimal downtime, and consistent peak performance.
Self-Prompting AI: Towards Smarter LLMs
Google AI introduced a groundbreaking concept for LLMs with Consistency-Based Self-Adaptive Prompting (COSP) & Universal Self-Adaptive Prompting (USP). Imagine an AI that's not just responding to prompts but also crafting them to elevate its own performance.
Key Highlights:
Intelligent Self-Improvement: LLMs now harness their own high-confidence predictions to self-prompt, enabling them to bridge the gap between zero-shot and few-shot performances without human intervention.
Versatile Mastery: COSP and USP go beyond simple calculations, demonstrating a profound ability to navigate through complex common sense reasoning, thereby setting new benchmarks.
Diverse Capabilities: From classification tasks to generating concise or elaborate text, USP adapts with ease across various applications, showcasing unparalleled flexibility.
Crafting Skilled Robots with Generative AI
RoboGen, the innovative AI agent, is redefining robotic skill acquisition by autonomously generating varied tasks and environments, facilitating rapid, scalable learning with reduced human oversight.
Key Highlights:
Innovative Generative Approach: By shifting away from traditional direct policy creation, RoboGen innovatively employs generative models to concoct a rich variety of tasks, scenes, and supervisions, fostering a breadth of robotic skills.
Self-Guided Learning Cycle: The agent independently navigates through a propose-generate-learn loop, identifying intriguing tasks, crafting suitable simulation scenarios, and breaking down complex activities into learnable segments.
Optimal Strategy Selection: Depending on the task at hand, RoboGen astutely chooses between reinforcement learning, motion planning, or trajectory optimization, ensuring efficient and effective skill acquisition.
OpenAI Dev Day Speculations
If rumours are true, OpenAI dev day will be the biggest event of this year and a pivotal point in the history of AI.
What can you expect?

Hot Takes 🔥
It is pretty amazing that GPT-4 is over a year old (and training likely finished quite a bit earlier) & no other LLM has beaten it yet I don’t think will stay true for long (Gemini?) but I also think we have only begun to explore what a GPT-4 level system can do, for good & bad ~ Ethan Mollick
I want an LLM trained on all the serial killer data the FBI has. Why? I would love to play a game called "catch the serial killer." I quite enjoyed being on the set of Criminal Minds (a TV show that did that) and I loved meeting the writer. She had to work with the FBI to come up with a way to kill someone every week for the TV show, she told me. ~ Robert Scoble
The shocking thing about early 2023 was GPT4 (~1.4T parameters), the shocking thing about late 2023 is how much capable 7B param models have become! I will not be surprised if a 4x MoE model of 7B models (i.e., 28B) will best GPT4. GPT4 may have been democratized overnight! ~ Carlos E. Perez
