Latest Developments 🌍

The Simulation, the company behind last year’s viral South Park AI episode generator, has launched its own platform, Showrunner, that lets you create your own TV shows with AI. Showrunner is designed for anyone, even those with no technical or professional experience, and lets you create shows in different styles, like anime, cutout animation, and 3D animation. It’s like the “Netflix of AI,” and it’s not just about watching—it’s about making.

Key Highlights:

  1. Creates complete episodes: You provide a prompt of 10-15 words and the AI generates an episode of your show, complete with dialogue, voice acting, editing, consistent characters, and even story development. Episodes can be anywhere from 2 to 16 minutes long.

  2. 10 AI shows ready to go: These include everything from a Silicon Valley satire to an anime family drama set in a virtual Neo-Tokyo. Some of these shows, like Exit Valley, are already available for alpha users to watch and even contribute to by creating their own episodes.

  3. A platform for creators: The Simulation wants to make AI-generated entertainment accessible to everyone, allowing users to contribute to shows they love and even get paid for their work. This could change the way we think about content creation and audience participation.

Imagine having an extra thumb that lets you pick up and manipulate objects with ease. Cambridge researchers have developed a revolutionary robotic “Third Thumb” that can significantly enhance the user’s ability to manipulate objects. This 3D-printed, prosthetic thumb is controlled by sensors under the toes, making it possible to perform complex tasks with ease. 👌 on a diverse group of participants, the device demonstrated quick adaptability and high functionality.

Key Highlights:

  1. Innovative Control Mechanism: The Third Thumb is worn on the opposite side of the hand from the biological thumb and is controlled by pressure sensors placed under each big toe. The right toe moves the Thumb across the hand, while the left toe moves it toward the fingers. The movement is directly proportional to the pressure applied, allowing for precise control.

  2. Testing and Results: Over five days at the Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition, 596 participants aged three to 96 tested the device. Almost all participants, regardless of age or background, could effectively use the Thumb within a minute. Only four participants faced difficulties due to fitting issues or inability to control the sensors.

  3. Task Performance: Participants performed two tasks: picking up pegs and manipulating foam objects. 98% succeeded in using the Thumb effectively during the first minute. This shows how easy it is to adapt to this new device.

AMD Releases New CPUs, GPUs, and AI Hardware 🚀

AMD, known for its high-performance computing products, is closing the gap with Nvidia by unveiling a slew of major updates at Computex 2024, showcasing their commitment to the rapidly evolving AI and computing landscapes. These advancements promise to deliver game-changing performance for both consumers and businesses.

Key Announcements:

  1. Zen 5: The foundation for AMD’s latest CPUs - This new architecture, powering both desktop and server CPUs, delivers a significant performance leap.
