Andrej Karpathy Leaves OpenAI šŸŽ

ā€œHi everyone yes, I left OpenAI yesterday. First of all nothing "happened" and itā€™s not a result of any particular event, issue or drama (but please keep the conspiracy theories coming as they are highly entertaining :)). Actually, being at OpenAI over the last year has been really great - the team is really strong, the people are wonderful, and the roadmap is very exciting, and I think we all have a lot to look forward to. My immediate plan is to work on my personal projects and see what happens. Those of you whoā€™ve followed me for a while may have a sense for what that might look like ;) Cheersā€

ChatGPT Gets Dynamic Memory šŸ§

OpenAI is testing a new Memory feature where ChatGPT will remember things discussed in conversations to make future interactions more helpful. How is it different from Custom Instruction? Memory is more dynamic, allowing for an evolving understanding based on what is shared over time in various conversations. Custom Instructions on the other hand are very direct instructions setting broad preferences or directives for all interactions. Memory feature will make your conversations with ChatGPT progressively more personalized. The feature is currently being rolled out to select ChatGPT free and Plus users.

Key Highlights:

  1. You are completely in control of ChatGPTā€™s memory. You can switch it off in the settings. If you want ChatGPT to forget something, just tell it. You can also view and delete specific memories or clear all memories in settings. If youā€™d like to have a conversation without using memory, use temporary chat. Temporary chats won't appear in history, won't use memory, and won't be used to train our models.

  2. Custom Instructions continue to allow you to provide ChatGPT with direct guidance on what youā€™d like it to know about you and how youā€™d like it to respond. For explicit information or instructions, you can add it to your Custom Instructions.

  3. GPTs will have distinct memories, with builders having the option to enable memory for their GPTs. Memories are not shared with builders, ensuring user privacy. You might need to repeat details to different GPTs since each GPT has its own memory.

Run ChatGPT Offline on Your Documents šŸ“‘

NVIDIA's Chat with RTX lets you personalize a GPT LLM with your own content, such as documents, notes, videos, or other data types. This application stands out by leveraging Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), TensorRT-LLM, and RTX acceleration, ensuring that you can interact with your personalized chatbot efficiently, receiving contextual responses promptly and securely. Chat with RTX operates locally on Windows RTX PCs or workstations, which enhances data protection compared to standard cloud-based chatbotsā€‹ā€‹.

Chat with RTX supports a variety of file formats including text, PDF, doc/docx, and XML. You can direct the application to specific folders, and it will automatically load the files into its library. Additionally, the application can process YouTube playlist transcripts by loading the video transcripts into the chatbot, allowing for interactive and informative dialogue based on the content of the videos.

  2. If you say you are raising $7T then you will surely get at least $100B! šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļøBut for what? - create new LLMs that are already a commodity? - develop chips that will definitely become a negative or low margin commodity too? - create AGI, that doesnā€™t require so much $$? - compete against big tech and shake the dependence on MSFT?
